Grand Duchy squad qualifies for CEV Junior Volleyball European Championship
The qualifying matches for the 2012 CEV Junior Volleyball European Championship – Small Countries Division took place recently.
The contests were held in the capital of the Faroe Islands, Torshavn. The final match of the qualifier event saw the girl’s team from Luxembourg contest with the home squad of Faroe Islands.
The resulting conflict did not take much long to decide the victor as the Grand Duchy squad was able to make a clean sweep over their opponents and seal the deal on the match at the following final set scores, 25-9, 25-22 and 25-14.
The first set of the match did not see any competition from the home side as the Luxembourg girls were able to come off strong and take the lead early on.
Once they had the lead, the Duchy squad did not look back and sped on towards securing the first set of the match at 25-9. The home team was able to rally themselves together and step up their game in the second frame. As a result, the second set stayed
close all through until the end but it was again the Duchy squad that was able to get their hands on the frame at 25-22.
The loss of the first two sets dampened the spirits of the home team and their performance showed a lack of heart in the third set. On the other hand, the Duchy team was able to capitalise on the momentum generated by winning the previous two frames by coming
out strong in the third set. As a result, the Duchy squad was able to secure the final frame of the match easily at 25-14.
The final round of the 2012 CEV Junior Volleyball European Championship – Small Countries Division is scheduled to be played in April of this year. The venue of the tournament has been decided as the city of Limassol.
