  1. He shot those guys in the BACK.  How do you leave your safe house with a gun, shoot someone in the back, and then say it was justified?

Anyways, this happened in a really conservative part of Texas, so there's no way he was ever going to be convicted.

  2. Right on.  Justice does prevail after all.

  3. This case shows why being judged by a jury of ones peers is so important. I am very happy with this ruling. I am sick and tired of the thugs and bad people having all the rights. And tired of the catch and release justice system allowing bad people to keep preying on honest people. We need to shoot more of them.

  4. In Texas, the old law prevails, they execute the most on death row ; don't do the crime and you won't have to worry about someone shooting you; the old law , a thief is a thief whether cattle or otherwise ; you would think that people in Texas would know this by now ; toughest on criminals

  5. IT does not matter what we think, the mindset in Texas is shoot first, and then celebrate.

The neighbor should have called 911, and let the police handle the problem.

  6. I feel that the Grand Jury  was right to dismiss any charges. Texas law states that you can protect yourself and property from burglars/intruders. Even though it was his neighbor's house being broken into, the man said the burglars turned towards him before he shot them while they were running away. I personally believe that is SOMEONE violates another persons property this "violator" is taking his/her life into their own hands. Whatever happens is deserved. However, is an alleged  burglar/intruder is killed and it is found that they weren't committing any crime after all then the person who killed the person could receive a VERY harsh prison sentence.

I can't stand crime. Although I am a non-violent person I truly feel these two men got what they deserved and, if I owned a gun (which I do not), I wouldn't hesitate to do the same that the man from Texas did.

This is just my own personal opinion. It is how I feel!

I hope my answer helps you out!

  7. Excellent decision by the jury.

Also, bgee, if you had read the story you would know the neighbor couldn't call 911 because the neighbor was out of town.

Mr. Torres and Mr. Ortiz not only won't be doing crack cocaine as they have in the past, nor will they also be illegally in this country, but they also won't burglarize anyone else. Once they came onto Mr. Horn's property, the shootings were valid.

  8. He was wrong to open the door to his house and go outside (I've heard the 911 call) and he technically broke the law, as his life was not in imminent danger, nor was his house invaded.

However, no jury in Texas is going to convict a man of killing burglars, and we all know that this world is a better place now that these two men are not able to steal from others.

The man who killed them is not a danger to society, and locking him up would have ruined his life, and that of his family.

A man here in Oklahoma saw someone burglarizing his daughter's house (he lived just down the street).  He went inside, did not call police, and came out with his deer rifle.

Without saying a word, he shot and killed the burglar through the back window of the pickup truck he was using to haul away stuff from the woman's house.

The district attorney here just declined to press charges, as doing so would have cost the city a lot of money, and he would have been found not guilty as well, despite having broken the law.

  9. Hey! I see a couple of guys coming out of my neighbors house, carrying a TV set. I'm gonna go kill them! Yup! I'M A GONNA KILL DEM!

                   -BANG!-

    OOPS!

That was the nephew of the neighbor, and his black schoolmate, coming to get a TV that their uncle had given them! Well at least in Texas ,I'll be a hero!

  10. Excellent decision, it is to be applauded!   not derided.

  11. As I heard the story, he technically didn't shoot the two criminals until they crossed over to his property; therefore he had a legal right to shoot them.  In my personal opinion, the jury got this right...

  12. ya, that's how it's done, more neighbors should act the same

    go Texas, Pantera rules

    Edit

not only was it a great decision, but now burglars will think twice before entering that neighborhood

  13. I think that it is great.  I am glad that the man who did the shooting is not in trouble.

    Dont mess with Texas.
