The Grand National?

I've just won £36.25 by betting on Comply or Die

The odds were 10-1....

I put £2.50 each way

How does that work? how does £2.50 get to £36.25 through 10-1??????

  1. An Each-Way bet is the same as placing two different bets on the same horse. Your bet cost you £5.00

The first £2.50 goes on for the horse to win the race.

    10/1 pays 11 x 2.50 = £27.50 (1 is added as stake returned for winning bet)

The second £2.50 goes on the horse to be placed either 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th but the odds will be divided by 4

    10/1 divided by 4 = 5/2(2.5)

    5/2 pays 3.5 x 2.50 = £8.75  (1 is added

    as winning stake returned)

Therefore total win is the sum of both these bets

    £27.50 + £8.75 = £36.25

The bookies will use this simpler method of working out your returns

    odds of 10/1

    10 x 1.25 + 2 x stake

    =14.5 x 2.50

    = £36.25

  2. Win;10 x 2.5 = 25: place;10/4 x 2.5 = 6.25: plus return of stake 5 total 36.25
