Grand Prix of America delayed until 2014 – Formula 1 news
Leo Hindery Jr, the organiser of Grand Prix of America in New Jersey, has announced that the race has been rescheduled for the year 2014.
The race was initially set to take place for the first time in June next year but even that had been subjected to change. The circuit had been decided to be along the Hudson River with the New York skyline in the background. The race would be proceeding
across the towns of Weehawken and West New York.
“We are going to be racing at Port Imperial, unfortunately just not as soon as we hoped and expected,” Hindery Jr said. “We promised Governor Christie, the Towns, the sport and its international fans the best possible experience, and unfortunately we need
additional time to ensure that happens. We remain 100% committed to the Grand Prix of America at Port Imperial and the race could have no better partner and friend than the CEO of Formula One, Bernie Ecclestone. We benefit greatly from his experience and counsel
and from his support.”
Ecclestone, on the other hand, stated that all the plans had been in place but in the end there was not enough time left to finalise everything. He said that the race promoters had been unsure of what they had been doing and it has taken them too long to
realise everything they need to prepare for the event to become a reality.
The reports coming in from New Jersey’s local media had been saying that the officials for the race were to make an official statement on Friday but Ecclestone had beaten to them on that and confirmed the delay in the race before they could.
The newspapers have been reporting the town mayors to have admitted that the delay in the race could be because of the organizers doing late in road repairs and permits.
Ecclestone has clearly denied that the Turkish Grand Prix will be replacing the Grand Prix of America. He admits that despite this unwanted delay in the race, he is determined to make Formula 1 a flourish in America. He backed up Hindery’s statement that
they will be definitely racing at Port Imperial but just a bit late.
