Grand Slam Match Racing Series 2012 drawing international attention – Sailing News
Match Racing fans across the world witnessed some classy sailing competitions last year when the Grand Slam Match Racing Series debuted featuring top Match Racing teams from around the world. The event produced some stunning sailing matches which really
drew attention of the sailors. The event’s debut finished successfully featuring the best races in the campaign.
Due to the popularity of the event throughout the world, the event organisers of the regatta, Chicago Match Race Center (CMRC), Bayview YC (BYC), Manhasset Bay YC (MBYC) and Oakcliff Sailing, have decided to expand the circle of the qualifying session of
the event so that more Match Racing teams can take part in one of the biggest Match Racing contest.
While speaking to the local media, Oakcliff Sailing's Executive Director Dawn Riley said, “What began last year as a series to promote the growth of match racing in the US has grown to be a major international series. The requests for invitations for our
event have come in early and hot, with only a few spots remaining.”
CMRC Director Tod Reynolds, on the other hand, added, “The Grand Slam series is a valuable addition to our match racing program because it gives us many overseas entries we'd normally find hard to attract to a Grade 2 event. It also gives a great opportunity
to attract new teams to CMRC from qualifying events around the US.”
The qualifying session of this year’s Grand Slam Match Racing Series will be held in Chicago and Oyster Bay, New York where Match Racing teams from around the world will participate to earn a chance to compete in the mega event. The Grand Slam will feature
four events which will be held in four consecutive weeks.
The schedule of the events is given below:
1. CMRC's Chicago Grade 2 Invitational, will held over August 17-19 at Navy Pier, Chicago on TOM 28's
2. BYC's Detroit Cup, on the Detroit River in Ultimate 20's over August 23-26
