Grand fathers sisters?

my grand fathers sisters were born in 1917 1921 and 1923, I know the city, but will obtaining their birth certificates tell me the HOUSE they lived in!

Sometimes it will tell you the street the parents lived.I know mine does.

No, but the electoral roll from 1911, 1921, and 1931 should.

At this point in the 20th century (assuming we're talking England & Wales) then yes, certificates usually give proper house numbers and roads for addresses.

As for the electoral roll.  Don't waste your time.  For one thing, only those eligible to vote appear on it - so anyone under 21 won't be on it for a start (and pre 1920s it doesn't even include women as they didn't have the vote).  And for another thing, the electoral roll is and always has been arranged by street address and not by surnames.  Unless you have an actual road to work with, searching large towns and cities for a certain surname is almost impossible.  And no, historical electoral rolls aren't online.  You have to go to the nearest large library to the area concerned and look at the book in person.  Only the recent rolls post-2000ish are online, and not everybody is on it because this is what is known as the "commercial roll".  When you get junk mail in the post, it is this commercial roll that they use to get your name and address.  Because of this, people have had the opportunity now for the past few years to "opt out" of appearing on this roll, which basically means that you can search as hard as you like, there are still a lot of people out there that you won't find.  The online electoral roll is not all its cracked up to be.  The complete unabridged electoral roll is only viewable in council offices or libraries.  Don't go buying any credits at 192.com or anywhere as you'll probably end up wasting your money.
