Grande Shores back to the worktab after a year’s absence and he is pointed toward an allowance race at Gulfstream Park
The 3-year-old colt, Grande Shores, tried his luck far too many times to break his maiden, but at time it seems that it is just not meant to be for Stanley Gold trained colt, who finished second for his three maiden special weight races and at one time missed
it by a whisker.
It is a cruel world when your second best, but Grande Shores kept going at it and in between his 4 attempts at the maiden races, he turned up for the Frank Gomez Memorial at about five and a half furlongs on 19 July, 2010, where he finished a dismal ninth
and then Florida Stallion Dr. Fager at about 6 furlongs on 7 August, 2010, and finished second yet again.
All his fiv e previous starts at 2010 came at Calder race course, but on 27 December, 2010, for his sixth start at Calder, Grande Shores, finally broke his maiden by 6 ¾ lengths at sixth asking.
The son of Black Mambo, Grande Shores was in the same crop as Awesome Feather, Jacks or Better Farm’s star filly. She went on to complete her undefeated season while Grande Shores after breaking his maiden was sent to the sidelines.
“He got very sick with a viral infection after he broke his maiden,” said trainer Stanley Gold Monday morning. “He lost a lot of weight and we sent him to the farm. He’s come back and trained great. I’ve done all I want to with him in the morning. Now it’s
time see where he is in the heat of a race. He could be a little rusty.”
He is returning to the competition after exactly a year later at Gulfstream Park on 29 December, 2011,in an allowance race where he will start off with a six and a half furlong race against a field of eight 3-year-olds and up.
Jockey Luis Saez has been assigned the duty of riding the colt in his comeback race.  It will be a big challenge for Grande Shores to come in after a huge layoff and perform straight away, and just like his trainer mentioned that he could be a little rusty
in his first race.
