Grandeur and grand title of Twilight Derby
On the day of November 3, the horseracing lovers watched a nerve-rending action at Santa Anita racecourse where the young Irish gelding, Grandeur, accomplished a grand victory by beating the hot favourite rival, Speaking Of Which, with a narrow margin in
the opening race of the high-profile Breeders’ Cup.
It was awesome indeed. The way Grandeur performed in his US debut was really impressive. With the classy triumph, the Jeremy Noseda trained horse managed to lift his career success ratio up to fifty percent.
A total of nine runners competed in the $150,000 contest that went over the distance of 1 mile and 1 furlongs.
Despite the fact that the race conditions were quite new to him, Grandeur performed marvellously under William Buick to add fifth victory to his profile.
The incident was quite disappointing for the punters who had staked their money on Speaking Of Which who sprinted under Pat Smullen.
The race began at 12:15 (GMT). In the beginning, the 13-5 favourite candidate seemed to be taking lead, but Smart Ellis and Grandeur soon took over him.
Then there started a neck-to-neck battle among these three contestants. On different occasions, Speaking Of Which surpassed his rivals, but he could not be able to sustain his pace.
A few yards before the finish line, Grandeur summed up courage and went ahead to win by ½ length. It was a thrilling and exciting action to watch for the spectators.
Grandeur earned immense applause after the triumph. It was a matter of great honour for him and his trainer. The upset he made was really amazing.
With Speaking Of Which being the runner-up, Smart Ellis stood third on the podium. All Squared Away grabbed 4th spot while My Best Brother finished fifth.
Power Foot sealed 6th spot and Old Time Hockey got the 7th one. Huntsville and Hoist finished 8th and 9th respectively.
As a whole, it was an exciting meeting that kick started Breeders’ Cup in a fabulous way.
Grandeur has no scheduled race in the next few weeks as he wants to rest on his laurels. Hopefully, he will accomplish some more glorious feats in his career.
