Grandeur to set sail for the 32Red Casino Handicap at Goodwood
The Class 2 32Red Casino Handicap will be hosted by Goodwood over a mile, a furlong and one ninety-two yards on Saturday, 26th May. Assembled for the £12,938 event is a line-up of eight three-year-old runners.
From among the entire line-up there is only one entry who has raced at Goodwood before. Grandeur, Verglas’ three-year-old grey gelding out of mare, Misskinta, has only raced thrice through the career. His career debut was at Goodwood.
On 30th July, 2011 he scored second in the Overtones EBF “Schiaparell” Maiden Stakes over seven furlongs. The race was won by Nawwaar who had Richard Hills riding and was threatened by Grandeur who was only adrift by a head’s margin.
Coming at terms with the third position was Opera Buff while the 5/2 favourite of the race, Sports Section, finished fifth on the track of sixteen.
The three-year-old then triumphed as the 8/13 favourite of the British Stallion Studs/Hardings Catering EBF Median Auction Maiden Stakes on 16th August at Brighton over seven furlongs.
Paired up with William Buick for the race, Grandeur won with a 1 ¼ lengths’ lead which made Bronze Angel settle as the runner up. Reserving the third spot in line behind the winner was Spoke To Carlo.
He has not really got a chance to put his potential at test ever since the new season took off as he ended fourth in the Bet365.Com Esher Cup (Handicap) on 27th April at Sandown over a mile.
Grey Mirage won the race as the 5/2 favourite of the race, Kid Suitor, settled as the runner up.
Grandeur will race the second outing of the season today and will have his chances at Goodwood again.
He will need to look out for Misdemeanour, Azamour’s three-year-old bay filly out of mare, Miss Takeortwo, as she is unbeaten through the two races that she was a part of during the previous season. Today’s race will mark out to be the seasonal start for her.
Both her 2011 races were at Kempton. The final race of the season was on 5th October in the Betdaq Mobile Apps Nursery over a mile. She won by a very narrow margin of just half a length and had Position taking up the next spot.
