  1. In the old days 'musician' without any other specifics usually meant the guy that played the piano at the saloon/bordello.  Hope this helps.


  2. im guessing you found this out by the census from the state that he lived at that time. how big of town /city did he live.  check local history about different types of opera houses   that were in the town

  3. Countries vary what info is available. Check census returns, birth marriage and death certificates. Maybe you can see how his career changed or find more details. Also remember it was possible to me a musician in the armed forces.

    Look for details like location and other occupations. If he was for example in a pit town then musician would likely be brass band player but in Scotland a piper.
