Grandin/Uhlirova down Klepac/Rosolska to reach quarters – Family Circle Cup 2012
South African-Czech duo of Natalie Grandin and Vladimira Uhlirova outclassed the Slovenian-Polish team, Andreja Klepac and Alicja Rosolska, in straight sets at the Family Circle Cup 2012 on Tuesday. They registered a 7-5, 6-2 score line against their rivals
to secure a place in the last eight at this green clay court event held in Charleston.
The Grandin-Uhlirova collaboration showed tremendous co-operation to dump the Slovenian-Polish pair in almost one and half hour.
The high-spirited junction of Grandin and Uhlirova stormed into the Family Circle Tennis Center and after earning the desiderated break in the second game, they leaped at 3-0. Regardless of losing their serve twice and trailing at 4-5, they remained calm
and recovered in the tenth game. The South African-Czech team got the breakthrough in the last game and clinched the opener with a 7-5 score line.
Grandin and Uhlirova lost their track in the proceeding set and after suffering the first blow in the opening game, they went 0-2 down. However, they made a stunning reply and went on a six-game killing spree, ultimately bagging the set with a 6-2 win.
Summing up the winning team’s performance, Grandin and Uhlirova sought 14 break opportunities and converted six to their advantage. They also showed exceptional defensive skills and brushed off 10 out of 13 breakpoints they came across and finished the match
with 66 points.
Next in line for the beaming South African-Czech team is the winner of the match between second seeds, Kveta Peschke and Katarina Srebotnik, and the Czech duo, Iveta Benesova and Barbora Zahlavova Strycova.
The fourth seeded junction, Andrea Hlavackova and Lucie Hradecka, will also feature in the last eight. They got two early serve breaks and cruised to a 5-1 lead in the opening set. Regardless of losing their serve in the eighth game, the Czechs cashed in
their third break chance and clinched the opening set with a 6-3 score line.
Hlavackova and Hradecka maintained their intensity in the following set and after their rivals held their serves in the second game, the Czechs unleashed flurry of groundstrokes to pull out the set with a breadstick.
