  1. birth certificate , SS card , custody papers , shot records , dental checkup records, proof of residence


  2. Call your local education board. You have to live in the area and have custody or guardianship to enroll the child in school. In some cases (areas) testing will be involved.

  3. They usually have to be out of diapers, if it is a 3 and up pre-K.  Sign up for a morning class if they still take afternoon naps.

  4. Try your local Head Start. It is a wonderful program that works with the families as well as the children. You will need to fill out an application and bring proof of income, shot records, proof of any food allergies , custody papers and other documents. The child must be 3 but not older than 5.

    Most centers offer transportation for the child and provide breakfast, lunch and an afternoon snack.  All of this at no cost to you if you qualify for the program.
