My grandparents are flying back to Bulgaria from the USA in a couple of days with British Airways. They have to make a flight connection in London Heathrow airport. They don't understand a single word of English and I am worried about them making the connecting flight. Their health is not that good either. Any advice? How can I make sure their trip will go smooth?

  1. Rennie,  there might not be an easy answer to the question.  My first thought would be to print and laminate a small card with 2 or 3 bullet points, such as:

"- We don't speak English (we speak Bulgarian and or....)

    - We need to catch flight xxxx of x*x Airline, at xx:xx hours.

Can you please help us find our gate ?  Thank you !"

  2. I'm sure staff at Heathrow deal with this situation every day.

Don't worry - they will be fine.

  3. if they are flying from bulgaria to US with a stop in london, I imagine that someone on their plane has to speak both  bulgarian and english....tell them they need to befriend someone on the plane to help make their connection

  4. If you are taking them to the airport, make sure the flight attendants on the flight know they need help getting to their next flight and that they don't speak english.

  5. could an english speaking person not travel with them ?
