Grands Crus on hold after disappointing show at Cheltenham
Grands Crus has been put on a hold after a disappointing show in his most recent race at Cheltenham in England on Saturday, January 26, 2013. He is a seasoned runner and has made his team proud on numerous occasions, but was far from his best in the Grade
2 contest.
The French challenger was rated as the favourite to succeed in that event and was awarded a general starting price of 5 to 2. The bookies had expected a strong show from him, but there was something wrong with him.
His start was not an impressive one, as he was slower than the rest. He failed to improve his speed and stayed way back in the field. Since he was not making any improvement, he was pulled up before the race was completed.
David Pipe, who has trained the quality stallion, was upset with the result and said that he was expecting a strong run. He was surprised with the lack of speed and said that there needs to be an assessment on the overall situation.
According to the trainer, “Sadly the results did not pan out our way and Grands Crus was particularly disappointing in the Argento Chase. The Grade 1-winning chaser had been in good form at home since his fine third in the King George on Boxing Day and I
was hoping for a really big run from him.”
He went onto say, “The very testing ground would have been softer than ideal but I would not dream of offering that up as an excuse for this lacklustre effort. He returned feeling sorry for himself and was quiet on Sunday. He will be freshened up now and
all plans are on hold.”
Grands Crus was going strongly over the past many years and was expected to challenge some of the very best in the business in the near future. He was lined up to take on Flemenstar for the Ryanair Chase, but that might not happen now.
Dom Alco’s son has got a very good record, as he has managed to win seven races out of 18 attempts. His fans will be hoping to see him back in form soon.
