Question:

Grangemouth oil terminal strike?

If, as predicted, the Grangemouth oil terminal strike causes fuel shortages in Scotland, should the first minister Alex Salmond be held directly accountable for mismanaging the Scottish day to day economy? He is allowing this to happen while recently popping over the pond for tartan week in New York.

There is already panic buying in Aberdeen.

  1. Who has the real control over this Salmond or Brown?

I am not being sarcastic I just don't know who is controlling Government nowadays.

If we sacked the bloody lot and gave their wages to needy causes I suspect we would all be better off.

  2. "should the first minister Alex Salmond be held directly accountable for mismanaging the Scottish day to day economy?

No. Salmond has no power on this matter at all and can do nothing. The power is directly at Westminster.. ie: Brown and his rabble in London.

  3. There's panic buying in Edinburgh and Stirling too.

But I don't think Salmond should be held "directly accountable" for this particular instnace. It is the fault of the Grangemouth staff  and of course, the panic buyers. I spoke to a guy in a petrol station on sunday. He said he took in £14 000 that day alone, compared to the £5000 he usually does.

  4. Yes, directly accountable because this a very serious strike and it should have been averted by Government pressure.

My understanding is that the strikers are doing this to secure pensions for FUTURE workers. To me that is a political move because they are not doing this for their own terms and consitions. This would be a throwback to the politically motivated strikes of the 1970s and Alex Salmond should put an end to this.

Salmond is always claiming that north sea oil is Scottish so he should not now try and pass the buck to Gordon Brown on this.
