Granollers/Lopez oust Qureshi/Rojer in the opening round – Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters 2012
Spanish duo, Marcel Granollers and Marc Lopez, dumped the Dutch-Pakistani pair, Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi and Jean-Julien Rojer, in straight sets at the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters 2012 on Tuesday. They registered a 6-4, 6-4 victory against their opponents to secure
a place in the second round at this ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) clay court event taking place in Monte Carlo, Monaco.
The Spanish junction required a single break of serve in each set to outclass their rivals in one hour and 21 minutes. After earning this success, they easily secured a place in the round of 16 at the Monte Carlo Country Club.
Granollers and Lopez convincingly entered this ATP World Tour Masters 1000 event and held their opening serve to level the scores at 1-1. The Spaniards warded off both breakpoints they faced and cashed in the lone break opportunity in the seventh game to
pull out the opener by winning six games to four.
Ranked 16th in the ATP World Tour Doubles Rankings, Granollers and Lopez kept momentum sailing into the following set. They got the coveted break in the opening game and took the initial lead. The Spaniards then held their composure and swiped
in entire serves without facing any breakpoint, ultimately sealing the set with a 6-4 win.
All in all, Granollers and Lopez sought 12 break opportunities and produced a better first serve share of 80 per cent as opposed to their opponents’ 67 per cent. They also brilliantly clicked 31 out of 41 points on it and clinched the match with 67 points.
Next challenge for the Spaniards is the seventh seeded team of Sweden’s Robert Lindstedt and Romania’s Horia Tecau. The Swede-Romanian collaboration received a bye into the second round after being a seeded team of the tournament.
The British brothers, Andy and Jamie Murray, will join the Spaniards in the second round. They got the better of the Mexican-German pair, Santiago Gonzalez and Christopher Kas, in straight sets in 67 minutes to book this spot.
Andy and Jamie will square off against the defending champions and the top seeds, Bob and Mike Bryan. The American twins also received a first round bye after being the highest ranekd team of the tournament.
