Grant Hill keeping his options open - Considering Oklahoma City Thunder and Miami Heat – NBA News
Whoever thought that free agent small forward Grant Hill will be signing with the Los Angeles Lakers is in for a surprise. A source close to the 39 year old veteran has said that Hill has two other teams on his radar - the Oklahoma
City Thunder and the Miami Heat.
Both teams reached the NBA Finals last season and could greatly benefit from Hill, who is still a good overall player with great defensive abilities. Hill can be a great asset off the bench for both the teams, who do not boast
the deepest benches in the NBA.
It was earlier reported that Hill was considering to either sign with the Lakers or retire after Steve Nash had decided to move to the Lakers last week, in a sign and trade deal that gave the Suns 4 future draft picks and $3 million
in cash.
The combination of Nash and Hill was being anticipated as a strong improvement for the Lakers. However, the forward is now looking at the possibility of moving to more established championship contenders.
The Miami Heat however may fall off the radar for Hill, especially after they acquired free agent Ray Allen earlier this week with the mini mid level exception and then offered the veteran’s minimum contract to Rashard Lewis, which
he accepted. With these two signings, Miami does not require another veteran shooter which increases the chances of the Thunder landing him. And Oklahoma City could greatly benefit from his experience as well as his scoring off the bench.
Hill averaged 10.2 points and 3.5 rebounds while playing 28 minutes a game last season with the Phoenix Suns. Back in his heydays, Hill was a star in the Orlando Magic roster but injuries had him losing several years of his NBA
career.
He has played with the Suns over the past three seasons injury free and at 39, still has a few good seasons left in him. He suffered a torn meniscus in his right knee midway through last season, and a surgery on it forced him to
miss the remainder of it. Prior to that, he had played in 243 out of the 246 games for the Suns.
