Grant Irvine earns Men’s 200m butterfly gold – EnergyAustralia SC Championships
Grant Irvine of St Peters Western Swim Club earned gold medal of the Men’s 200m butterfly on concluding day of the 2012 EnergyAustralia Short Course Championships at Challenge Stadium in Perth on Sunday, September 16.
The 21-year-old Irvine faced no trouble in overpowering his fellow swimmers and secured gold medal of the event. With his unmatchable efforts in the playoff, Irvine gained a comfortable lead over his opponents from the start and earned his place on top of the victory stand for gold medal.
Irvine remained in a lead of two body lengths over his closest competitor and transpired on the finishing end for the title with a timing of 1 minute and 53.52 seconds.
The gold medallist was trailed by Christopher Wright of Southport Olympic Swimming Club, who stayed nearly two seconds apart and submitted a time of 1 minute and 55.37 seconds for silver medal.
Wright was traced by Andrew Cameron of Melbourne VIC, who was 0.93 seconds away from overpowering his preceding swimmer and secured bronze medal of the race by clocking an effort of 1 minute and 56.30 seconds.
Fourth finest spot of the event was obtained by Lachlan Staples of Rackley Swim, who was 0.17 seconds behind and touched the wall with a timing of 1 minute and 56.47 seconds.
Similarly, fifth position of the race was obtained by Keiran Qaium of Sydney Uni, NSW, who remained 0.53 seconds apart and surfaced on the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 57.00 seconds.
Qaium enjoyed an advantage of Shane Asbury of Nunawading, who was 0.81 seconds apart and tapped the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 57.81 seconds for sixth position.
Seventh position of the event was secured by Regan Leong of Kokoda, who was 1.45 seconds apart and touched the wall with a timing of 1 minute and 59.26 seconds.
Last position of the race was secured by Dominic Bilton-Philp of Southside, who stayed 0.30 seconds behind and ended his race in a time of 1 minute and 59.56 seconds.
Furthermore, Irvine was pleased with his gold claiming effort in the event and raked medal after the event.
