Grant Piggott and Robby Jon Garka impress on Day 2 of Tornado Speed Sailing at Southampton
An impressive display of speed sailing was seen at the PSP Southampton Boat Show, as the Tornado Speed Sailing event commenced on Southampton waters. The Hydropool Tornado fleet sailed in four 100 metre windward leeward races under strong wind conditions
on Day 2 of the event. Grant Piggott and Robby Jon Garka had a superb run on second day to finish on top of the standings at the end.
Unlike Day 1, wind conditions on the second day were quite strong and ideal for a tremendous sail. The winds blew strongly along the Solent from 17 to 20 knots which made the second day more interesting, as sailors found it quite favourable to have a superb
sail.
On the other hand, what made it more thrilling was the presence of a huge crowed and some close battles among Tornado boats on Southampton waters. Spectators flocked on the racing area to cheer their favourites and enjoy the enthusiastic display of sport
by the eight team Tornado fleet, which was hoping to sail in as many races as they can in the one-hour race time slot.
However, only five races could be done in the time which meant there was going to be some close encounters for the crowd watching the event from marina pontoons. Heavy winds did provide them a superb show of Tornado Speed Sailing with some nervous moments
and many near misses.
Due to the short race course sail, there were many shifts in the podiums throughout the second day. In the end, current UK National Champions, Grant Piggott and Robby Jon Garka sailed impressively during the races to finally come up on top of the fleet.
Tim Neale and Chris/Douggie finished close to them on second place after five races on Day 2 of Tornado Speed Sailing at Southampton.
The overall standings at the end of Day 2 are given below:
