Grants for down payment or closing cost?

We are 1st time buyers looking to purchase a home. Have you found grant money and if so how did you do it? Thanks!

  1. Sometimes the sellers will pay closing costs or you can roll it into your loan. I would talk with a professional mortgage handler or banker.


  2. Contact your local county housing authority (or search the web).

    Here's the deal: this type of assistance is used by governments to encourage development of specific residential areas--typically low-income or other places where government has required developers to provide a certain percentage of below-market housing.

    Assistance is for first-time homebuyers in a certain income range for specific properties in specific neighborhoods.

    These programs are run by state, county or local governments. You should google the city name + "housing assistance".

  3. no such thing exists;  THE 3 BOGUS organizations who claim they have down payment money in fact do not; they try to convince the seller to provide it and

    for that phone call, they want over

    $1,000 at closing.
