Graphics Card Slot Question PLEASE HELP!?

I recently purchased a graphics card thinking it was 2.0 x16 but came as just x16 and I have only 2.0 slots, goes in mother board reads it and everything but when I try and install drivers it just like goes dumb to a black screen with a blinking white cursor... is that because I have a non 2.0 in a 2.0 slot??? PLEASE HELP!

    I would say it's a software, not hardware problem.

The pcie x16 in a x16 2.0 slot should not be a problem - pcie is designed to be backwards and forwards compatable, meaning you can stick a pcie x16 into a x16 2.0 slot, and will will operate at the limit of the x16 card. If you stick a pcie x16 2.0 card in a x16 slot, again it will operate at the limit of x16 on the slot. You can stick any pcie (x1, x4, x8) into a x16 slot and it will operate using the 1 4 or 8 lanes the card was designed for.

    Don't know about the blinking cursor. Can you post more info? does your board have onboard video and if so can you switch back to it and get a picture? do you need to manually set onboard/pcie video in your BIOS? is the blinking screen at POST or after, when windows should be loading? Are you using XP or Vista? Also you should really list the video card make and model.
