Graphics card makes noise but only during games.?

I just bought a Geforce 8600GT 512MB graphics card. I don't know if this is normal, but everytime i run a 3D game, or 3D mark, or anything that has 3D in it, the videocard makes a strange stuttering noise. It seems to follow the framerate of the current game, say for instance my game slows to a crawl of something like 5fps, then the rate of the stuttering from the card is also 5 beats per second, in-sync with the framerate. On games that run really smoothly, upwards of 30 or 60fps, the stuttering is so fast that it sounds like a mild hiss. Is this something wrong with the card? it's not disturbingly loud but it's still something i've never heard from a video card before. My previous video card was a Geforce FX 5500.

My PC is a P4 2.66Ghz, 1GB DDR2 ram, 945GCT-M2/1333 motherboard, with a 500w power supply. 1 DVDrom drive, 1 CD-ROM drive, and one hard disk. No other cards installed.

  1. Due to maximum use of Graphics card at play!

Since GPU unit uses at a time one,not distributed.

    And its normal i guess!

  2. Upscale graphics cards have fans built in to the side of the cards for heat reduction.  What you're probably hearing are the fans increasing their speed to compensate for the increased heat generated when playing games.  Also gaming takes more cpu power which would also invoke the cpu fans to increase their speed as well.

In other words, don't worry, your system is behaving as it should.

  3. Not sure but that might just be the fan speeding up.  You might need to find out if there is a way to turn the constant fan speed up all the time.  See what the temps of the card are running in your nvidia control panel.  You really want them to stay under 50C.  Also go to run in your start menu and type in dxdiag.  That will bring up the system information about your card and what edition of drivers you are running.  Then go to the Nvidia website and see if you are running the latest edition of drivers for your card...
