Graphics cards: Will a card designed for DirectX 10 and PCIE 2.0 work with DirectX 9 and PCIE 1.0?

Or is that card meant for Vista only (XP tops out at 9.0c). I have an XP desktop, onboard graphics with no DVI port. I bought a Samsung 22" monitor, am running it thru it's VGA port. I want a graphics card with a DVI port and an HDMI port. I find many designed for DirectX 10, PCIE 2.0. XP tops out at 9.0c and I have an older PCIE 1.0 or 1.1 slot.

I want to stick with ATI cards, and will not be playing games of any sort. Any recommendations?

  1. The DirectX part will but the PCI-E won't work, they transfer the amount of data very differently.
