a lot of people under estimate the wii's graphics. it's a weak system in comparison but i think it's almost the software companies fault for how they make the games for example if you look at metroid "corruption" it's amazing how well the art work was done. i'm just not understanding why more games are like this. is it due to budgeting in the software companies, or is it just lazy? also does anyone know if the next call of duty "world at war" will be online for wii?

  1. It just seems like most of the companies spend most of their time figuring out gameplay mechanics than working on graphics.  Nintendo's first party games look ok but you're not going to see anything close to Xbox 360 or PS3.  It would be interesting to see  Nintendo do a new Zelda game that was built specifically for the Wii in order to see how much they can pump out in the graphics department.

  2. If you have a good group of artists and developers then creativity will shine through, just because a game can push more polygons or has a higher definition doesn't necessarily mean it will look better.

  3. well, many of your third-party games, however lacking the graphics may or may not be, boast excellent gameplay.

To ge that extra level of gameplay, they've got a portion of their budget that would've otherwise been used on graphics perhaps.

The point is, with the Wii's revolutionary motion-sensing controls, all your game developers are forced and obligated to utilize them and in the end, sacrifice some of their time and budget.  So in order to meet a deadline, they make the graphics of the game a little less advanced.

You'll soon start to see Wii games come out that have amazing controls AND decent graphics, because the Wii's been out for almost two years, the games that were lerger projects to develop have had time to incorporate better graphics as well (The Conduit.. looks like a great game).  Developers have had time to get used to the new era of gaming, and things'll only get better.

  4. All the third party game developers are using the wii as an excuse to make cheap games with bad graphics, bad gameplay, and motion controls that dont work, and then they label it as fun for all ages. It's their fault that the wii has been labled as a bad game system.

  5. Call of Duty 5 is online, and will support Wii Speak.

The graphics on most Wii games are weaker than even Gamecube games for one simple reason: to make a modern game, it typically takes 2-3 years. Basically noone besides Nintendo and Ubisoft thought Wii would be a success before the stampedes at E3 '06, so only those two companies have even been developing games for it for even 2 years. Plus, most developers did not work on the Gamecube at all, so they have to learn the programming language Wii uses. Finally, when the Wii became a clear hit early on, every company wanted to cash in with as many games as they could before the cometition on the Wii got fierce, so they frequently would budget and schedule development to only last a few months, not a few years.
