  1. Each of those equations is a straight line.

    Putting x = 0 and then y = 0 in x + y = 5 gives two points on the line:

    (0, 5) and (5, 0). Join the two points to get the line.

    Similarly with 3x - y = 11.

    When x = 0, y = - 11, giving point (0, - 11).

    When y = 0, x = 11 / 3 giving point (11 / 3, 0).

    Join those two points to get the line.
