Which of the following applies to the graph of x - 2y = 6?

m = -2, passes through (-3, 0)

m = 2, y-intercept = -3

m = -2, x-intercept = -3

m = 1/2, passes through (0, -3)

  1. m = 1/2, passes through (0, -3)

    If you put the equation back into y = mx + b form by solving for y, you can see the the line has a slope, or m, of 1/2 and a y-intercept, or b, of -3.

  2. to answer this question, you have to turn the equation to slope intercept form. to do that, you just solve for y.

    x - 2y = 6

    - 2y = -x + 6

    2y = x - 6

    1/2[2y] = 1/2[x - 6]

    y = x/2 - 3

    In this form, the number next to x is the slope(this case 1/2), and the number added/subtracted is the x intercept(in this case -3). So the answer is:

    m = 1/2, passes through (0, -3)

    I hope that helps!
