Graphite or steel shafts for 45 year old beginning golfer?

  1. It really depends on several things....graphite is generally for slower swings, like ladies or seniors.  If you are a fairly athletic person, I would imagine steel would be a good start.  Steel is cheaper, so your investment in clubs would be less.  Typically, a new golfer starts with a less expensive set and then moves up to something more customized to their individual swing type.  No need to go out and drop big bucks on the first set.  Save that for later as your game matures.


  2. graphite all day long!! Just starting you need all the help you can to get the ball in the air and increasing your swing speed.....griphite will be lighter....you want a swingweight in the C category, not in the D!

  3. Graphite seems to be club for the older person and you are approaching the age where you do not develop great swing speed so learn with graphites, They are good clubs, lighter and with perimeter weighting, an easier club to use.
