Graphite shaft question?

Had a question on graphite shafts?What is the differance when you see like,3.5,4.5,6.0,on the shaft?I know what the flexes mean,just not these numbers.?

  1. It's the torque number, the resistance of the clubhead to twist during the swing and it's measured in degrees.  3*-4* is the usual numbers on shafts today.   Older shafts with numbers less than 4 felt boardy, but with technology today that is gone and there are shafts with torque numbers under 2*.  Rifle numbers their shafts 4.5, 5.0, 5.5, 6.0 for flex but they only make steel shafts.


  2. The torque number. the lower the stronger tip.

  3. It could be either:

    1) Torque rating (how resistant to twisting of the shaft)

    2) If you are looking at Rifle branded shafts, they use numerical ratings instead of alpha rates (A, L, R, S , etcc)
