Who believed the Storm were the worst when it came to grapple tackles ? They sure got the rough edge of the publicity. The NRL judiciary have viewed 214 instances of tackles, and the ones defined as grapple tackles have been attributed to Tigers 20,Roosters 19,Bulldogs 17, Storm 16, right through to the Panthers and Knights on eight. So is it just a case of Tall Poppy Syndrome, bash the champs ?

  1. ya mum is

  2. you say te storm are the woest at it but they actually do it the best. all teams do it but not to the extant of the storm and affter a few bad grapple tackles theyve done players got suspended and theve been in the spotlight so some otherclubs can get away with grappling.

its the coach's/ officials fault because they pay wrestling coaches to teach players all these different grapples . but also the nrl is so inconsistant about suspending grapples and they often get it wrong.

  3. i beleive the storm started the grapple tackles. it was like alfie langer back in the day he studyed the rule book and looked at how much he could bend the rules to his liking of the game, belimy is just doin the same as langer back in the day. today i dont beleive storm are the worst uses of the grapple other teams are just doin the same to get the edge that storm have had for a couple of years. i beleive all wrestlin coachs should be sacked because its a game of league not wrestlin

  4. Spot on, this caper was going on long before Melbourne were in the comp, the old timers will tell you that, it is a beat up from the sydney teams who are trying to unsettle the Storm, well I can tell ya it wont work, back to back for the Mighty Storm boys

  5. melbourne have been accused of the "grapple tackle" since 2007

  6. I think it is an over analisation of the game. If we try to outlaw everything.

    NO head high fair enough.

    NO lifting Fair enough.

But i think this grapple tackle will be a bit like, hands in the ruck in rugby, to hard to police, and the decision can go either way.

Leaque is simple and physical lets not play around with it.

  7. I agree with you.. they have always blamed Melbourne purely because we are the outsiders of the comp being in Melbourne, AFL territory. Its just how it is... But your stats just prove its not Melbourne.. is the whole NRL!!!

  8. The grapple tackle, who's responsible? The NRL is the culprit. Why? It was the NRL that changed the rules to have the defending team back 10 metres. This meant that for the defending team to have any chance they had to control the tackle, that is making the tackle last as long as possible. Hence wrestling moves to prolong the tackle to give the defence time to set. Much as Im hate the grapple tackle it can't be blames on the Storm. The only thing they are guilty of is doing it better than the other teams.

Reduce the gap to 5 - 7 metres for the defence. Cut the c**p of refereees calling "surrender", 'dominant', etc. As well as speeding up the play the ball it should also curtail this incessant runnung from dummy half.
