  1. use astro turf.

  2. Golf courses use a special mower to cut the grass, and they are really expensive.  I think a good grass to make a practice green out of would be bent grass.  I would suggest going to http://www.bentgrasses.com/ if you want a real grass green, but you might also want to consider getting a turf green, they react like real greens and you never have to cut them.

    hope this was helpful

  3. I would suggest using artificial turf that is meant for putting greens. Maintenance is much less than real grass.

  4. i have a four hole putting green in the yard. It is made of two different types of artificial turf. I suggest asking some professional companies to send you some samples of the multiple types of turf so you can choose the best one. In the end though, artificial will pay for itself...

  5. Depending on where you live, bent grass is your most likely option, although bermuda will work if you're in the deep south/Florida.

You'll need to buy a specialty mower for cutting.

    None of these are cheap.

A less expensive (but still not cheap) option is to put in a synthetic grass putting green.  You're still talking approximiately $10,000 (as opposed to a bent/bermuda which could run $40-$75K PLUS maintenance).

  6. It is admirable to want to build your own chipping and putting green with natural grass. Consult with a greenskeeper as to the treatment required to aerate, fertilize, top dress, plug, irrigate, overseed,  treat for fungus, eliminate earthworms and frequency of mowing. Then see if the effort is worth the reward.
