Question:

Grass surface in Tennis? How can I ajust to it?

For the past few months I was used to playing on hardcourt, the surface was fairly slow, but of course not like clay.

But at the new tennis club I joined in the UK, its all grass courts and the ball moves too quick! I dont get enough time to react so I mess the shot up!

I've been playing on the surface for nearly 2 weeks, and no improvement.. any tips to help me ajust the best I can?

thanks.

  1. just swing b4 u think of it, shorten ur timing, and take advatnage of the shots u CAN make

  2. Shorten your backswing on ground strokes, and try to come into the net to finish off points.  But the only way to get used to the quickness of grass court tennis is to play as often as you can.

  3. If you haven't already, change your shoes! You'll get far better traction if you're wearing tennis shoes for grass courts, giving you more confidence to get into the right position to hit those fast grounstrokes. You should be expecting to hit a lot of flat balls and slices. As the court gets chewed up with more play however, balls will start to slow down. Also, coming in and volleying does give you a real advantage on grass.

Also, if you've got a good serve, use it to your full advantage (you'll get more speed on grass), so you can at least have the edge in holding serve.

  4. start off slow with your rally partner, and resist the urge to hit screaming winners. once u get used to the pace, then slowly increase the power. also, like others have said, expect faster and lower bounces, so shorten your backswing. and also, try to pick up the serve and volley game, it works wonders on grass. of course along with it, work on your approaches, vary them with underspin or flat. all the best! :)
