Grasshoppers at the beach?

Today, I was at the beach and there was an enormous amount of grasshoppers on the beach AND in the water. Does anyone know why this is?

In general, grasshoppers don't like water at all as they lay their eggs in soil.  But in the following link they do mention some who do like H2O, including salt water marshes.  Scroll down quite a ways to read it.

Like another person who just responded to this question, I was also in Fenwick Island on Friday, Aug. 1st, and noticed the beach hopping with grasshoppers.  I've been wondering whether it could related to other natural aberrations.  Perhaps the recent earthquake in California?

Today was our first day on the beach. We are in fenwick Island so not far from you at all Im sure. We could not believe all the grasshoppers out there. It was wild. They were floating in the ocean and coming on shore. A few even flew on me and my wife. We had a few chairs lined up  about 50 feet from the surf and when we got back to them from playing with the kids there were like 10 grasshoppers on them. Ive been coming here for a long time and have never seen anything like that.

The amount of humidity often changes the population grasshoppers.

I use to live in Long beach and wqe had a bunch of brown grasshopper that appeared.   There was some odd environmental condition that drove them to the beach.  I forgot the exact reason why.

We are in Ocean City Maryland and saw lots and lots of grasshoppers too on Friday, August 1 at 4th street. They were on the beach and in the water. They seemed very lethargic. The lifeguard said his chair was covered with them and that he had never seen that before.

What could it be?

maybe that is their new adaptions cause by gene mutation. lucky guess.
