I've decided that I want to be a grassroots organizer but I'm not even sure where to begin or what type of schooling I would need. Any suggestions?

  1. You mean for homeschooling, yes?  Contact the leaders of the homeschooling organizations in your state.  See how you can help.

  2. I think to be a grass roots organizer you are more of a need of a cause than an education.

I think basic psychology, sociology, marketing and advertising would be helpful.    What you are doing is trying to instigate interest in a cause from a population base; so knowing your target group and your product (the cause) would be essential.

I'm not really sure if these are paid positions.  I think most of these people do it for a cause they believe in, not as an occupation.

  3. To become a grassroots organizer,  you need to find a cause you believe in, convince people it is a worthwhile cause, and organize people to work with you.

I think the best avenue for learning this skills is to work with a grassroots organization.  You may be able to find a paid position, but if you can't intern with the group or volunteer.

You can find some of these opportunities at:

If you are going to school and looking for a major that will help you, you could try getting a Public Relations degree.

I hope this info was helpful.  Good luck with your efforts!
