I am going on a cruise. I have been told that the company take your gratuities out of your account daily. I do not want to do this. As I want to give my tips to the people that give me good service. Can this be done

  1. i agree with most...but the cruise line wants all they can get so the min. is 5.00 a day and in my exp. its hard to change

  2. Yes, it can.  Most Lines 'suggest' an amount they consider appropriate to give certain staff who look after you but you can bypass this.  In my experience the staff are poorly paid and the Lines try to make it up by asking you for an extortionate amount of money as tips.  If you find your company take a daily amount then go and see the Purser and tell him/her that you are not willing to do this - this shouldn't be a problem.

  3. Yes you can.  When you first get on the ship, go to the pursers desk and they can take care of it.

  4. Yes, you can have the gratuties for your waiter, asst. waiter and cabin steward removed from your on-board account.

Go to the purser's desk on embarkation day and make the request.

However, pls note that all beverage purchases automatically get a 15% gratutity added....I have not found a way to change that.

For Carnival, they charge your on-board account the full amount for the gratuties the moment you step on board...not daily.  So your account is immediately charged $70 fora  7-day cruise per guest the day you arrive.

If you plan to give your tips in cash, it is best to do it the last day and take cash with you for this purpose.  It is can be cumbersome to try to find cash on the last day of the cruise...the lines to the purser's office are long for people settling up accounts, etc.

  5. you are served by a bunch of people every day. Three or four waiters, room stewards, etc.  it's almost impossible to tip everybody and you don't use cash on the ship so that makes it even harder. I wouldn't do it. It's also not that great an amount of money $10 per person per day.
