Gravitate searching for his maiden success - Racing Green Designer Menswear Maiden Stakes at Ripon
Gravitate is expected to register first win of his career in the Racing Green Designer Menswear Maiden Stakes, taking place at Ripon on Thursday, April 19th.
On his debut earlier this month, the three-year-old was not impressive, as the Burlington Palm Hotel Maiden Stakes saw him missing the runner-up place by four lengths at Yarmouth.
Although he failed to top the chart, it was good enough performance to earn him some respect. Consequently, the bookmakers gave him the highest starting price for today’s 1-mile event.
A cash of £2,588 is reserved for the ultimate champion. Among the contenders are: Gravitate, Saffa Hill, Lothair, Feeling Good, Going Grey, Vital Calling, No Dominion, Brother Superior, Friendsinlowplaces, Hawaiian Storm, Master Chipper, Meljana, Go On Gilbert
and Icewan.
Gravitate just needs to forget his recent trouncing and focus solely on today’s task. Without a shadow of doubt, the colt has potential to be at the top, but he needs to perform out of skin to grab the glory. If the son of Pivotal manages to overcome his
flaws, he will be in great position to win the contest.
Among his opposition, Saffa Hill seems to be the strongest competitor. Although the three-year-old is yet to taste success, his chances for the top spot cannot be ignored. The Tim Easterby-trained is making his seasonal return after staying out of action
for almost eight months.
Since the bay gelding is stepping into the ring after a lot of rest, one can expect him to be fresh and full of energy. In his previous race in August last year, he finished sixth in the British Stallion Studs Supporting British Racing EBF Maiden Stakes.
Lothair, who is making his debut today, cannot be ruled out of equation. Alan Swinbank’s trainee will look to start his career on a winning note, but it is not going to be an easy task for him especially against the likes of Gravitate and Saffa Hill.
According to our calculations, Saffa Hill is the only big threat to Gravitate. If the trainee of John Gosden manages to outsmart Saffa Hill, it would be an easy win for him.
