Gray,round, rubbery things at the beach, what are they?

Was at Cocoa beach Florida yesterday and we found all these gray rubbery and round things all over the place. They were round when you put connected them back together. Most of them had been cut off and one section. I figured they were from sort of animal in a shell or something, but I have no idea. Anyone know what they are?

They sound like a species of jellyfish to me.  I'll bet if you hadn't been wearing shoes you'd sure know you stepped on something.
