Graydar to back his talent in an allowance test at Gulfstream Park
Twin Creeks Racing Stables owned three-year-old colt, Graydar, looked somewhat of a sensation when he drew away to post a massive victory defeating maidens at first asking at Gulfstream Park. The 8 ½ length victory in the maiden special weight and a 100
Beyer Speed Figure speaks volumes of the colt’s ability, and now he returns to the same venue to be still eligible for the $54,500 Allowance Optional Claiming over a mile at Gulfstream Park.
He returns to the scene after eight long months, but he made his second career start at Belmont Park, when he finally returned to action on 15 September, 2012, for an allowance race after some eye-catching workouts with older horses.
However, when the race day came, Graydar, was nowhere near what he is capable of as he couldn’t handle the track or something, as he went on to finish seven lengths off the speedy New York-bred Saratoga Snacks in third.
Trained by veteran horseman, Todd Pletcher, Graydar‘s return to South Florida is backed by some solid training.
“He went to the farm for a little while after his maiden win, and I thought he ran okay when he finally came back to the races at Belmont,” said Todd Pletcher. “Sometimes, it’s difficult to bring horses back off a layoff, and the way the conditions were
written for that race, he wound up running against horses with a lot more experience. The horse that won the race that day is one of the best New York-breds and had already run through his conditions against statebreds. Graydar’s lack of experience probably
hurt him more than anything.”
Todd Pletcher speaks highly of the son of Unbrideld’s Song, and says the colt is capable of big things. Graydar has been training at Palm Meadows, and Pletcher said it is the best he has seen him ever.
Out of Dehere mare by Sweetest Smile, Graydar will be odds on against six other rivals for the allowance test at Gulfstream Park on 6 December, 2012.
He will have to look out for the stakes placed, Launch Commander, who is reunited with David Fawkes, and will be a threat in the mile event.
