  1. We now have twice had a talkfest about becoming a republic most people agree.

Canada went independant and did it well, why not Australia.

We have all grown up now so we don't need another county to overlook us anymore.

NO we don't want a royal family that's plain stupid.

Only draw back is having a president I think

  2. The likelihood is that when HM Queen dies, the Australians may not want King Chas as their head of state.

Australia is a mature and sophisticated democracy and it's up to the Australian people to decide for themselves.

I think Australia has stayed with the Queen out of deference to her personally and not because they are all raving royalists.

Below is a link to the Queens coronation - in it, you will hear the Queen take oath of loyalty to her people in UK, Canada, Australia, Pakistan etc.  All of us in the Commonwealth.  The Queen has never broken her pledge of loyalty to us.

At the beginning of the above video you will see the b&w BBC TV pictures broadcast at the time.  When this changes to colour, it then becomes the film of the event.

If and when Australia does decide to become a republic, Australians will always be welcome here in UK.  It will make no difference to how we see Australia and Australians.

I am a lifelong winging pom.

  3. basically all the leaders of Australia don't want the queen as their head of state. they want their own royal family or similar.this argument is always flaring up every now and then.

  4. Australia is not yet a republic . All of the referendums held have seen small majorities in favour of the status quo

However with the current prime minister a very strong Republican I would expect another referendum and perhaps they will then opt to be a republic

But to be honest they do indeed operate as a republic in all but name so perhaps it is time to formalise this

  5. Well we have a pro-republic k**b in office now as our Prime Minister who ministers who are socialists, communists and unionists want a Republic.

Our ex PM the great John Howard was a Monarchist.

We held a referundem a few years ago and the Monarchists won , but the Repulic supports were not happy and demanded vote after vote until they get their own way.

It seems we are loyal to the Queen, and should stay a Monarchy until after her death out of respect.

  6. dont know but ozzies have the right idea as in quality of life,

but not how the blacks and moari's are treated over there
