Great Britain amateur boxing championships line-ups announcedGreat Britain and the home nations have announced their line-up’s for the first Great Britain amateur boxing championships. The idea of the tournament is that it is an opportunity for fighters to showcase their skills and make an impression on selectors ahead of the 2012 Olympics. Great Britain will enter their normal team and each of the home nations independently will enter pugilists that they think could be good enough for the GB team. They will then have to pit their wits against each other with the finals being shown on live television.Commonwealth gold medallists Tom Stalker and Simon Vallily will feature for GB while Wales will have bantamweight Sean McGoldrick who won silver but looks set to get that upgraded to gold after the suspension of his opponent Manju Wanniarachchi.Performance director of the BAB Rob McCracken said: “The success of all of the Home Nations at the Commonwealth Games means we can expect to see some great match-ups in every weight category.”Stalker’s inclusion means the lightweight is set for a rematch with Scotland’s Josh Taylor after the pair met at the Commonwealth Games.Elsewhere there are familiar names in Khalid Yafai and Bradley Saunders while England’s Martin Ward in the lightweight category is also one to look out for.In the Commonwealth Games Haroon Khan, brother of Amir said he was forced to represent Pakistan as he was being overlooked by British selectors. This is therefore a great opportunity for those who feel they are out of contention to impress McCracken and his selectors and make a real push for 2012.Full squad details are available on the GB amateur boxing website.
