Great Britain versus South Korea at 20th Sultan Azlan Shah Cup: Mid-Match Report
Great Britain and South Korea are battling it out in their last group match of the 20th Sultan Azlan Shah Cup, being played at the Sultan Azlan Shah Stadium in Ipoh, Malaysia, on May 14.
South Korea led the first half by a solitary goal edge, 2-1.
As the play started, there were equal opportunities for both the two teams in the early minutes. The game picked up pace when the Korean side earned their first short-corner in the second minute of the game. However, the British goalie saved the ball played
by Jang Jong Hyun.
The Koreans continued their striking game and carried out back-to-back attacks. However, the entire British team were playing on their defence in order to keep opponents off the score-board. Jang Jong Hyun and Kan Moon Yi managed to take the ball inside
the Great Britain's defensive circle at times, but these efforts were denied by the hands of British defensemen.
Though Lain Lewers attempted to block the attack from Yoon Sung Hoon, he still managed to take the ball at the top of the circle and unleashed a powerful strike at the goal in the 9th minute, opening the score 1-0. In a counter-offence, the Great
Britain team earned their first short-corner in the 9th minute of the match. Richard Mantel attempted the opportunity, but the shot missed the target.
The two sides were playing the game in a very defensive and careful way. In the 19th minute of the game, the British side earned their second short-corner that was brilliantly converted by the hands of Matthew Daley in the 20th minute, levelling
the score at 1-1. After making a tie, Daley was issued a yellow card and was sent out of the field.
Jeon byung Jin in the 24th minute of the game managed to get into the British defence circle and stuck a powerful shot, regaining a single goal lead, 2-1.
Though, the British earned a couple of shorts corners in the 30th and 31stminutes, but failed to capitalise on any of the chances.
An end-to-end play was observed in the remaining period, as the first half concluded with Korea leading by a 2-1 over Great Britain. Despite of getting many scoring chances, the British team failed to add any digit on the scoreboard. Meanwhile, the second
half has been commenced between the two teams.
