Great Britain’s Giles Scott in lead of Finn fleet: 2012 Skandia Sail for Gold Regatta
Finn fleet of the 2012 Skandia Sail for Gold Regatta had only one race on the opening day of the regatta on the Portland Harbour and Weymouth Bay waters which was won by America’s Caleb Paine. However, the next stage of the fleet races did not go in his
favour and he tumbled down to 21st place after failing to retain his overall leading position.
Great Britain’s Ben Ainslie was the second contender to lead the fleet as he was sailing impressive but unfortunately some lower finishes in the early races became the reason of his fall. Meanwhile, another British Finn sailor, Giles Scott proved his class
and secured the top place of the Finn fleet with six points.
First race of the fleet brought 21st position for the Brit and he dropped down in the standings but he bounced back into the game with some classy sailing display and clinched four consecutive bullets to ensure his success and dominance on the
leader-board.
A second podium finish in the sixth race was enough for him to confirm his position on the top podium. His impressive comeback and a discarded race did the job for him and he was able to climb up the result board.
Ben Ainslie is still struggling on the second podium place and he is trying hard to get to the top podium spot. He clinched the bullet in the sixth race which showed that he has come back in his full swing and the upcoming races will really make the difference.
