Great Britain’s Philip Sparks and David Kohler lead 2011 Delta Lloyd Junior 470 World Championships
Great Britain’s sailing team of Philip Sparks and David Kohler retained their lead on the second day of 2011 Delta Lloyd Junior 470 World Championships at Medemblik. The team sailed brilliantly to
grab the first position in the first race of Day 2. Behind them are Sweden’s Nicklas Dackhammar and Fredrik Bergström in second place with four points.
The weather conditions on Day 2 were not ideal, as the wind was gusting at a solid 28 knots around the racing area, which put the sailors' skills to the test. The event holds a total of 92 teams including
Men and Women fleets. Such harsh wind conditions made the fleet race more thrilling during the day.
While speaking to the local media after their victory, Sparks said, “We were lucky as both the Greeks and the Swedish capsized so we finished the first race first. We have only been sailing together
for three weeks. This is my second year in the 470 and the first for my crew so I guess it’s a pretty cool start for us.”
The overall results after second day are given below.
