I'm not very far along in the novel but I'm quite curious. Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

  1. At the start of the novel his dreams and aspirations were to be of a higher station than that to which he was born. He wanted the education and the affluence that would allow him to be with Estella.

As the novel goes on though, his aspirations and dreams change, but none of them could be explained without ruining the ending.

I basically only read period novels, but even I thought this book dragged on and was a bit rubbish lol.

  2. Well for one, he wants the girl.  For another he wants to be higher class like the girl and not be a blacksmith like Joe.  But wherever you are in the book, you might not have gotten this far yet.

  3. man, I so wish I could answer this question for you.  I had to read this book for highschool literature - and while I'm normally an avid reader - reading the first page of this book felt like a slow spiral into quicksand fr me.  I never read it and I still have bad dreams about it.  If you're enjoying it - kudos to you!  I just bought the cliff notes.
