When Pip is told by Joe to "get behind the door, old chap, and have the jack-towel betwixt you," what does it mean? The footnote says a jack-towel is a rough towel tied together to form a roller. But what kind of roller and how would it help him hide. Like, what exactly is a jack-towel and how would it have been used? Thank you very mucho. :0

  1. Go to gradesaver.com.      I read GE through that site

  2. It's been a while since I read the book, but my recollection is that he is supposed to stuff the towel down the back of his pants to protect himself from a spanking.

  3. Have a look at these study guides.  They should give you some ideas about your question and help you with your work with this novel.
