Great Falls will not be staging horseracing this summer – Horseracing news
It has just recently been declared that Great Falls will not be a witness to horse racing this time around.
The news has come as a major source of disappointment to the locals as the races events at Montana ExpoPark have become somewhat of a favourite with the people of the area.
The horseracing that has been taking place in Great Falls came along with the Montana State Fair. This event takes place in the summer season and is a cause of much entertainment. It is one of the biggest highlights in horseracing that will not be in the
list this time around.
The horse racing events are normally allocated seven days. These days are scheduled so that they fall before the Fair begins and ends three days within it.
The failure to make horseracing become a reality this time around was due to the fact that two concerned parties could not reach an agreement concerning the affair. The people that were having a discussion on the matter were Bill Salina and Merrit Pride.
Salina is the chairman of the Cascade County Commission while Pride is a horse trainer as well as a racer.
The talks that these two people had dealt with the possibility of Pride taking on the responsibility of being the operator of horse racing for this current year along with a business partner. However, due to undisclosed reasons, the talks did not succeed
in churning out something possible and resulted in no horseracing event at the Fair for this year.
“Both sides of the negotiations said, 'Let's just let it rest for a year,'” Salina said. “More discussions will be considered in a year.”
There was a possibility to see horse training at the ExpoPark but that too has encountered obstacles. The reason that has been given for a negative on this issue is that the required expertise in both training and racing of the horses are not yet possessed
and it would require the collaboration with a private operator to make it a reality in the future.
Whatever course the events take in the future, the locals are deprived of horseracing this time around.
