Question:

Great Global Warming Swindle - Governments are so corrupt!?

I was shocked after seeing the C4 documentary, I've even emailed the prod. co. for a dvd! This completely changed my understanding of this planet & it's terrible that we are made 2 believe that it's our fault. The Earth is only doing what it's always done, naturally evolve. Yes people die as a result but there's nothing us humans can do to prevent it, we only omit apx. 1% of the Earth's carbon dioxide! Yet Mr Blair has increased taxes on cars, 4x4s and soon houses will have to have energy effiency ratings which will effect council taxes! Never have I seen the government explain the science, I wonder why! Even Bush had never believed it until recently, I'm guessing he saw the $$$$$$$$! The most disgusting thing tho is that Africa is not allowed to touch it's coal & oil resources as a result! This could save the continent & allow them to be self-sufficient. It seems that the world is run by money & power hungry politicians who really don't care about the human race as a whole. WTF?

  1. great statement of what you beleive.

    Elected governments have been the last to recognise anthropogenic climate change because they are voted for by people who do not like bad news, and funded by industry based on fossil fuel, miners, oil exploration,  supermarkets, agrochemicals etc. so in that sense yes they are corrupt.

    the tax on cars has been decreased - eg the Prius road tax is now only £15pa, and for the Tesla, 0-60 in 4 seconds, built by Lotus UK, www.teslamotors.com, and the Phoenix SUT, http://www.phoenixmotorcars.com/, or the Toyota RAV4 ev the road tax is actually NOTHING, £0, nada, free.

    Inreasing the energy efficiency of your home will save you money in electric and water bills, as well as rates. I don't see why that is such a problem, unless you like throwing money away to show how much you can afford to waste.

    Africa IS alowed to use it's fossil fuel reserves to power it's progress, but not to export to support increasing western power hungry consumption just to pay their debt burden or agrandise warlords (as the west has removed resources from the continent at unfair prices for centuries).

    how are you going to tackle peak oil, overpopulation, mass migration, water shortages and, yes, climate change whatever the cause... to ensure you can have a peaceful, happy & healthy retirement?

  2. Wow what a load of bollocks.

    Guess if you don't know anything about the science or the way science operates then you are easily conned as you have been well and truely.

    The science is pretty simple;

    1 take a box, (the environment) add stuff to it (CO2 from fossil fuels) and sooner or later, the amount of stuff in the box will increase. No matter what happens inside the box.  The %s given in the film are arrived at by misapplication of the figures.

    2 carbon dioxide acts as an insulator. increase the amount, (37% in the last 200 years, ) and it gets warmer. We havent seen the full effects of this increase in heat yet, but we are starting to. Without the small amount of CO2 that was in the air before humans added more, the earths temperature would be too cold to support much life. Fortunately the small amount of CO2 was enough to keep the planet comfortable for life. We have added 37% to that amount of CO2, what fool would think that that won't have an impact on climate?

    Ohh so its all natural cycles is it? Pure co incidence that the CO2 levels started to rise just as the industrial revolution kicked in, and that the curves for fossil fuel consumption and CO2 levels are in almost perfect lock step?

    Strange that all measured past climate changes and CO2 level changes occured over 1000's to 100,000's of years and this over just 10's to 100's.

    I've seen some of the science put forward by the sceptics and I wouldnt have let my grade 10 students get away with such sloppy stuff.

  3. Woooa there.

    I think you are seeing what you want to see.

    More investment in Africa would allow them to develop not access to oil and coal. the example with one solar panel? Buy more!

    When you get you DVD, before you use it as a coffee mat, have a good look at the solar graph versus temperature. Despite this data being argued about in the science literature  it is still used, but curiously they don't show any data after the 1980s?  Is this because:

    a) they have no data? - funny with so many people working on it or;

    b) there is no correlation then - hmmm....lets think - if you find the original (albeit disputed) data the two lines go in different directions indicating all of the increased global warming signal of the nineties is not related to this solar activity.

    Also, the popumentary say's that because CO2 is such a small part of the atmosphere that it can't possible have an effect.  Would you eat 500g of potatoes with 0.15g of cyanide on them? Doh. Bad science through and through.  Check out Carl Wunsch's comments about having appeared on the programme:

  4. Bingo. so you finally found out that the whole thing is driven by big business and governments, the one for profit and the other for tax. It does not matter which way you go either on will get you.

  5. You are quite correct. Carbon dioxide is only one very small part of the story of global temperature. If humans stopped all industrial activity, it would hardly make any difference to global temperature. We are in a natural warming cycle and need to learn to adapt to it, rather than waste billions in a futile attempt to stop it.

    We do need to reduce our dependency on oil though. Any civilisation that is dependant on a single product is vulnerable, and we are doubly vulnerable because the almost monopoly producers are hostile to the western way of life.

  6. Quite right, the earth, goes through the normal changes as it has done since the beginning of time.  We all know that for millions of years there have been constant changes.  However, we really do need to curb our abuse of the planet and the atmosphere.  You are right the Africans should be allowed to use their resources, as the West and the rest of the world has done and is till doing now.  Why should they starve whilst the rest of the world is getting fatter. Finally, yest the world is run by money and power and if we were all logical and caring we should stop it.
