Last night I watched an old episode of Dirty Jobs, garbage pit technician, I believe. Anyway, a garbage co. in California makes electricity, enough to power 1000 homes using nothing more than garbage-mostly food scraps. My question is, knowing what kind of shape our environment is in, if something like this can be done, why aren't there more facilities like this?

  1. Emissions are emissions. It does not help the environment in any way to burn any thing. Even when we see it on TV. Even the natural gasses from organic wastes, when burned, create emissions.

  2. people wait for the govt to do something/some  govts dont like to do things in case they lose votes/they say its expensive.

the way to get things changed.

    * vote for politicians who first and foremost support these enviroment initiatives

*join local org that pushes actively for change.

*keep your own patch enviromentaly friendly

*change as much as possible, it adds up.tell people how to do this, make it 'fashionable'

                     'think globally/act locally.'

  3. are they doing this by incineration or how ???garbage incineration is said to release more toxins into the air through the burning of various compounds and the community outrage over not having incinerators in their "backyard" is the main reason that they are not used more

  4. Well first off lobbyist in DC for big business eletric don't want it because Power Companies bring in Billions in revenue each year and spend hundreds of millions so ideas like this one don't seem viable.

  5. There is no money in doing that.  People would, but they care more about money, and they won't make money with that.
