Great Leighs Racecourse occupies the site of the former Essex County Showground, between Chelmsford and Braintree. It is directly off the A131 bypass, north of Great Leighs village.

It is Britain's newest racecourse having opened last month after long delays.

As has been stated it is not open to the general public just yet as they are still ironing out a few problems.  All meetings so far have been "invitation only".

I hear on the racing grapevine that the cynics claim the racecourse will only be open for a few years before it is shut down for "failing" and sold off at a massive profit for housing development.

Unfortunately I think quite a few of our racecourses will go down this route.
