Great North Run Final: Second show of Welton Arthur’ s misfortune
Those, who did not believe the role of luck factor in a race, had to change their opinion after watching the E. Parker trained black dog, Welton Arthur, losing the final game of the high-stakes Williamhill.com Great North Run on Wednesday, October 17.
The heated contest, that took place at Newcastle on the sidelines of the mega events like All England Cup, Angel Of The North Oaks and Northern Puppy Derby, was surprising won by S. Mason’s Ballyard Buddy despite being an underdog.
That was a nerve-crushing upset indeed. For the huge crowd of the sport lovers, it was a matter of great surprise. The punters, who had put their money on Welton Arthur, were shocked to see the race results. Thus, the whole stadium was spellbound for a few
moments when the contest ended.
The race started at 9:10 (GMT). Welton Arthur broke from Trap 2. In the beginning, he was sharp enough and everybody was sure of his success, but the veteran black dog got baulked and then lost his pace.
In the meanwhile, Ballyard Buddy and Elwick Quiz went ahead. Then, there was witnessed a rip-roaring battle between these two greyhounds.
The both kept running parallel. Just a step away from the finish line, Ballyard Buddy took courage and surpassed his competitor to stand first by a length’s margin.
Elwick Quiz came second while Killieford Blaze sealed third top spot. Welton Arthur fought hard against Derrane Jake for the fourth position, but failed to get it by a neck’s margin. Swabys Princess was the tail ender.
It was for the second time since the last few months the sport lovers witnessed Welton Arthur losing in a final game.
After winning the Heat 2 and the 2nd Semi-Final of Gain Feeds Yorkshire St Leger, he failed in the final by a narrow margin of ½ length despite being the 6-4 favourite. That grand tournament was held at Doncaster during August-September.
These two final failures have proved the extent of Welton Arthur’s bad luck. His trainer is also disappointed after this c**p.
If the two manage to recuperate their momentums, they can be able to change the course of fortune in future.
