Where can I find & what are some good camera companies that take good pictures of people. I want to try modeling, and the cameras I've been using haven't been taking good enough pictures!

  1. Danielle,

You just need a camera that has a lens focal point of about 35mm-50mm for excellent portraits. Most standard point and shoot cameras have atleaset a 35mm setting. All digital SLR cameras allow you have interchangeable lens and come with a standard 18mm-55mm "kit" lens. The most popular, and expensive manufactors are Canon, & Nikon for DSLRS. You're better off getting a standard point and shoot unless you have upwards $1,00 to spend. You can look into Canon, Nikon, Olympus, Konica Minolta, & Kodak.

  2. Are you sure it's you and not the camera? What camera do you have?

  3. "I want to try modeling" and "the cameras I've been using haven't been taking good enough pictures!" really says two different things.

Are you wanting to become a model or a photographer?

If you want to become a photographer, its more than just buying equipment.  Knowing how to use the equipment and what equipment you need is part of it.  Posing and lighting are also part of it.  Do you have any kind of formal training for photography?  Perhaps taking a photography class that put an emphasis on portrait, fashion, or glamor at a local community college/university will be most beneficial for you.  Once you have a good knowledge of the basics, you'll find books on corrective posing and different lighting arrangements somewhat easier to follow.

As for good camera companies, I would say Canon and Nikon in the "35mm" format; Hasselblad and Mamiya in the medium camera format.  (For most of my studio portraits, I use a Canon 5D with 24-105mm f/4L IS USM lens).

If you want to get into modeling, hire a photographer to take your pictures.  A pretty face without a pretty portfolio will generally stay an unemployed pretty face.

  4. 35 - 50 mm - to wide / short.

You'd do better with something that is equal to 100 mm to 135 mm.

Canon 135 mm f 2 is very good for portraits. http://www.flickr.com/photos/little_pook...  Click on all sizes to see a larger one. It works best with a full frame dSLR. For others, too "long".
